Hello - We have been using the NDCF for almost three years now on Amazon Fire HD10 tablets. The tablets have automatic updates and the app is up to date as well but we continue to have issues with lagging of the app and locking up. No matter where we are, or how strong or weak the WiFi is, we still have issues. Yes, we have opened it and then operated in airplane mode but it is still quite slow (and, doing so prevents us from using the tablet to look up recalls and access other information so it is not convenient). Additionally, clicking through the multiple pages to complete a form doesn't always work well with the flow of our work. I'm sure it has been considered and there are reasons why this can't happen but it would be great to have the form on one page to scroll from top to bottom. That way, we can document information on the spot and not risk entering blank information as a placeholder in the required fields just so we can move on to the field we want to enter info on, and then forgetting to go back and correct it (missing it on review) or forgetting what to document when the section of the form appears. Like a paper form, being able to view it in its entirety allows for more versatility and we are less likely to make errors with our documentation. Lately, the app will not allow us to select more than one CPST until we exit the form and re-enter it. This is cumbersome and time consuming, especially with families patiently waiting. I feel we spend too much time on the form when we should be focused on educating the family.
The other item that I mentioned at the booth at Lifesavers was the need to have a day of manufacturer, not just the year and month. If a manufacture has no day of manufacturer, an option like 00 can be selected. By providing the exact day, it helps us with recall follow-up and registration of the car seat, especially when we distribute a car seat to a family.
We are considering reverting back to the paper form to speed up the initial process and to use our time more efficiently with the parents and caregivers. However, we do not have staff who can then enter the paper info into the website after the event so that presents a challenge. The NDCF is a GREAT concept that I fully support; it just needs some tweaks to make it operate more smoothly and user friendly.
